The Laughter Science

Scientifically proven with measurable results

  • Laughter releases endorphins, which are feel good, pain reducing chemicals. A study conducted at Deakin University’s School of Psychology last year that showed laughter can increase personal and workplace wellbeing, mood and self-esteem. Just one laughter session can decrease stress, depression, and anxiety by up to 10%.
  • Clinical research conducted in Denmark, India and the USA has proved that laughter lowers the level of stress hormones in the body. In a clinical test in the USA, workers reported feeling more motivated, optimistic and focused after practising Laughter Yoga 15 minutes a day for two weeks.
  • Laughter works like an aerobic exercise without sweating. Dr William Fry, at Stanford University, found that 10 minutes of hearty laughter equalled 30 minutes on a rowing machine! Laughter stimulates the heart, increases blood circulation, boosts oxygen and removes waste products.

Our Laughter Path Sessions stimulate the production of FOUR key neurochemicals

Dopamine

Are procrastination, self-doubt, or lack of enthusiasm a problem for your team? Our Laughter sessions continually celebrate accomplishments thereby giving participants a Dopamine boost. As a result participants are motivated to take action, which ultimately means increased productivity.

Serotonin

Laughing increases your oxygen intake and boosts serotonin. Your brain has trouble telling the difference between what’s real and what’s imagined so even pretending to laugh will boost mood. Gratitude also increases serotonin, that’s why we include a gratitude exercise in every session.

Oxytocin

If your team needs to bond then Oxytocin, or the cuddle hormone, is the chemical which will build healthy relationships and improve social interactions. Receiving gifts also raises oxytocin levels and smiles and laughter are the gift everyone loves to share.

Endorphins

In high pressured work environments where stress is endemic Endorphins are the key to alleviating anxiety and depression. Laughter is the easiest ways to induce endorphin release at work. Even anticipating laughter increases endorphin levels. We encourage participants to laugh throughout the day to keep stress at bay.

What’s that smell?

You may smell essential oils during our sessions. Studies have shown that essential oils are another great way to release endorphins and help boost participants’ mood.
